But the Lord said, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. And I will show him how much he must suffer for my names sake.”
Ananias is initially reluctant to meet Saul because of the way he persecutes believers of the Way. The Lord told Ananias to go and he obeyed in spite of his fear. Of all the people the Lord could choose he selected Saul. Saul was a Pharisee, who wanted to arrest and kill those who followed Jesus. Being God’s chosen vehicle to share His message with both Jew and Gentile will have a cost.
If Jesus tells us to do something we need to go. Often times this means stepping outside of our comfort zone to work with people in a place that we may fear. Through the power of the Spirit, we can overcome our fear and serve obediently. If God selected to use Saul, how can we ever begin to think he can’t use us? We all have a story and background that is applicable to share with others. When we follow Jesus and share His gospel we should not expect a cake walk. Paul was beaten, whipped, shipwrecked and imprisoned. Through all that he maintained a razor focus on spreading the word to develop believers.
